Romford and Gidea Park, founded in 1929, have established themselves as one of the leading rugby clubs in Essex, and the premier club in the London Borough of Havering.
The club fields 4 senior sides, with the 1st XV playing in the London Leagues in Division 3 NE, whilst the remaining XVs all participate in the Essex BL Merit Tables. A thriving Youth and Mini Rugby section play on Sunday mornings. In 2005, a Ladies Section was introduced, and their success has been demonstrated with consecutive league promotions in the past two seasons.
Rugby is the ultimate sport. It is energetic, builds confidence and teamwork, and develops character and mutual respect for team mates and opposition alike. Romford will accord a warm welcome to new members - whatever their age or ability. You don’t have to be a player to join – just become a social member and turn up with your enthusiastic support, make new friends and enjoy yourself.
Allowing for the fact that our most valuable asset is our membership, Romford has the added advantage that, at Crow Lane, it owns its own clubhouse, changing rooms and land for four pitches, one of which has match floodlights. During this summer, the club has embarked on an ambitious development project. When this is completed by the New Year, the clubhouse will offer improved social and changing facilities, along with a separate function suite, club shop and physio room.
This year, our aim is to have more members sharing the load to give some others less to do! As with many other sports clubs, we rely heavily on volunteers working in a variety of roles. You do not have to know anything about rugby to get involved. Much of the work is done in sub-committees. These include Playing, Youth, Mini, Social, Membership, Grounds and Fund-raising. There is always a place for a willing volunteer.
